Hello Ms. Gilson, I am a young aspiring graphic novelist, I love your work, especially Avigon and I was wondering if you had any advice you could pass down?

Hmmm…. That’s a good question. I think practicing you art, taking classes, learning new techniques, reading tutorials, are all important for honing the craft. Draw all the time. Quantity will eventually lead to quality.

Read a lot too. Books and comics. Sometimes people only read one particular thing, but that leads to a very narrow view of what’s possible.

Go to comic cons and small press expos if you can find one. Talk to people, see what they are making. (The talking part is not always easy!)

      Try to have fun!

    Thank you!
